The Buddhist Concept of Loving Service

by JodyCalvi January 8, 2014 | 2:03PM
These 2 volunteers set the bar for volunteering at Farm of Life, Costa Rica. Stephan from Austria exemplifies the Buddhist concept of loving service. We all learned from his example and gained from his loving presence. Emma from Canada lent her hand in any capacity with her 'Throw me in Coach' attitude! Greenhouse, kitchen duties, mixing cement, building bridges, doing dishes, laundry, guiding tours, instructing Yoga, sweeping and mopping... these 2 volunteers touched all aspects of Farm of Life with their service and grace! And, they go home with deeper knowing of themselves and their souls. Find Emma online at paintedturtleyoga.com for Yoga instruction in Ottowa Canada.

by JodyCalvi January 8, 2014 | 1:52PM
Farm of Life's Scottish volunteers aim high to inspire Scotland and beyond to live healthy from the inside out. Greenhouse and Yoga volunteer Susan Reynolds has been eating raw food, teaching Ashtanga Yoga and blogging about all of it (www.wee-yogi.co.uk) for 7 years. Susan's transition to raw food was easy and overnight! Lorna - Chef at Farm of Life - sought far and wide to find heart and happiness. With her natural inclination to serve the greater good, her life guided her to raw food and good people. The two ladies now join forces with 'Twist and Sprout', offering retreats in Scotland, Farm of Life Costa Rica and beyond! Together, with their diverse knowledge and experience, they know how to make detoxing and healthy living super easy for you.

Improving the Compost and Greenhouse Soil

by JodyCalvi March 21, 2012 | 9:18PM
Volunteers Billa and Dane rescue the compost system and soil for the greenhouse. The fruit and vegetable scrap produced at this raw food retreat center is enormous, Big-Time Volume, but our compost was rancid due to poor activation. We weren't doing it right. Billa and Dane set us up with a composting system that is layered with carbon and greens and produces rich hummus. Other permaculture strategies are also discussed, such as no dig planting, and trapping humidity into the greenhouse.
